Ryan Lakin, WGBH, Fall 2020, NEH

During the Fall 2020 semester, I interned at the American Archive of Public Broadcasting/GBH. A collaboration between GBH and the Library of Congress, the American Archive of Public Broadcasting (AAPB)'s mission is to preserve at-risk public media and make it accessible to the public. Working under the supervision of Casey Davis-Kaufman, Associate Director of the GBH Archives and Project Manager for the AAPB, my internship duties involved several projects related to the Pacifica Radio Collection. This collection contains a selection of historically significant programs produced by the Pacifica Network, a public radio network based in Berkeley, CA, which have been digitally preserved by the Pacifica Radio Archives. In the first half of the semester, I created a Special Collection for Pacifica materials which will be featured on the AAPB's Online Reading Room. In the second half of the semester, I conducted rights review of materials in the collection to determine whether specific programs could be made accessible online. This project involved collaborating with members of GBH and the Library of Congress' legal teams. Overall, this internship was an incredibly rewarding experience, and I am glad to have contributed to making the Pacifica Radio Collection accessible to a wider audience.
