B.A Anthropology, Bard College
B.A. Film and Electronic Arts, Bard College

Milan A. Miller is a New Orleans-raised - New York City - based academic scholar, engaged visual artist, and creative writer. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Film and Electronic Arts, specializing in film, video, and digital production, and a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, specializing in community development - both from Bard College. As an academic scholar and artist, Milan’s work explores the relationship between visual art and social activism. Combining visual art and social activism through her career as a journalist and independent filmmaker, she has sought more creative ways to influence, empower, and inspire others to understand the interdisciplinary relationship between visual art and establishing community, while also educating the public on issues that impact us directly. Milan’s past and current work explores topics such as gender equality, class, racial justice, and environmental protection which gives her a better understanding of how the practice of journalism and its role in social change can be used to analyze and critique existing systems and structures, and to develop new ways of thinking.

What drew you to the M.A. in Arts Politics:

The Arts Politics M.A. Program at NYU is an exciting and unique opportunity for me to further explore the intersection of art and politics within journalism. The program provides a comprehensive curriculum including courses in political theory, creative practice, public policy, and cultural studies. Furthermore, I am interested in learning about the various ways I can develop my artistic medium to promote social justice and equity.
