Tisch Compensation Standards

The Tisch Office of Career Development does not post positions in exchange for portfolio experience. Any experience in which you are deriving an immediate benefit deserves appropriate payment. As an institution that nurtures the next generation of artists, we believe that asking an artist to work for free devalues their time, supplies, creativity and expertise; it also undercuts the income of emerging artists. We are committed to helping change an industry that has been perpetuating this practice, with the goal that all artists can ultimately deserve a living wage.

When requesting work for hire from a Tisch artist, any and all contractual terms should conform to industry compensation standards. If you are unsure of standard industry rates, we recommend using union/guild contract minimums as a baseline. For more info, please click on the links below:

While we recognize that compensation for artists may vary depending on each project's scope and budget, we recommend that freelance opportunities receive at least minimum wage.

If you wish to post a job listing on Tisch College Central, you may be asked to provide additional info, such as a proposal and budget for your particular project before your opportunity is approved for the Tisch community.
