The beginning of the academic year is always electric with the energy of thousands of new and returning students, faculty and staff members filling the studios, classrooms and hallways of Tisch. But after a year unlike any other, this beginning also feels unlike any other as we collectively celebrate not so much the “back to normal” but what Dean Allyson Green recently called “our new renaissance.”

We would like to take this opportunity to highlight some things happening at TCR as part of this thrilling moment.

HEAR US 2022 (Fall)

As you probably know, the second round of Tisch’s new HEAR US program has already kicked-off with applications due by 11:59pm ET* on MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th. Take a look and see whether your work is a good match for this program which celebrates and advances student projects that center BIPOC voices and stories. If you were familiar with last year’s program – either as an applicant, an awardee, or an interested observer – you’ll see that we’ve already incorporated some student (and mentor) suggestions for 2022.

*NOTE: You must attend one of our informational sessions to apply. If you cannot attend, please email tisch.hearus@nyu.edu to request access to the recording.

STUDENT RESEARCH FUND 2022 (Spring)

We will also continue to invest in student-led research through the Student Research Fund (SRF) for grads and undergrads interested in developing collaborative research projects, and joining a cohort of fellow researchers for peer mentorship and exchange. These opportunities will launch in January, although we will soon be announcing the 2022 deadline as well as the dates of informational workshops taking place this fall.

If you’re interested in learning more about any of these three student-facing opportunities (HEAR US or SRF), please join us during Tisch’s annual COMMUNITY WEEK (October 18-22)!

FACULTY & STAFF

If you’re a faculty or staff member, we invite you to apply to TCR’s annual Catwalk Residency (see last year’s RFP) which will take place from April to November 2022. Look for an email invitation to apply later this semester. We will also continue to advance our Mega Grants Incubator (MGI) this year, welcoming a new 2022 cohort of faculty researchers to join our first MGI cohort (deadline TBD). And TCR will continue to administer the Future Imagination Collaboratory (FIC), which will also welcome its second cohort of researchers later this fall. In August, we launched an exciting NEW project emerging from the FIC: *This Is Not A Drill*. Faculty and student participants in *This Is Not A Drill* will present their works in a culminating exhibition next spring (date TBD).

It’s going to be a great year and we hope you’ll join us!
