For these works, Dundon finds his subjects in a subculture of photographers who film and photograph political protests in order to publish the results online. Live-streamers are seen by their followers as intrepid reporters who bring back pictures the mainstream won’t show. But driving their ambition is often a complicated mix of activism, voyeurism, and a willingness to capitalize on political violence. In photographs made since 2020, “Streamers” highlights the increasingly porous distinction between professional journalist and activist observer. Also seen are some of the improvised methods used by protesters to deter the camera’s eye.
