Amina Hamawy is a New York/New Jersey-based writer and director whose creative voice is deeply influenced by her identity as a Palestinian/Syrian-American and a Muslim woman. Raised in a military family and having moved over nine times before going to college, she grew up constantly adapting to new environments, which shaped her sensitivity to themes of identity, alienation, and belonging. These experiences continue to inform the emotional and cultural lens she brings to her work. Amina’s storytelling focuses on complex characters, cultural nuance, and the quiet tensions that often go unspoken—particularly within communities from the MENA region. She is passionate about writing emotionally intimate, character-driven stories that challenge assumptions and reflect underrepresented perspectives.
