Adjacent, the ITP and IMA Journal of Emerging Media

Announcing The Second Issue of Adjacent, NYU ITP & IMA’s Online Journal of Emerging Media ew York University’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) in the Tisch School of the Arts today (March 5th) launches the second issue of Adjacent, an online journal of emerging media.

Nancy Hechinger, ITP Faculty and Adjacent’s Editor-in-Chief said, “This journal is conceived, edited, designed, programmed and produced by ITP students – at the same time they are carrying a full course load. The quality of the journal –both its look and content– is a testament to their dedication and professionalism. When we were planning this issue, we were drawn to articles that not only covered a diversity of topics but also shared common threads. And the threads in this issue are complex, pressing and we hope they spark good conversations...as they did in our editorial meetings.”

Some of the featured articles in this issue include: A Case for Clarity in the Age of Algorithmic Injustice by Jen Kagan, ITP’17 and Research Resident (2017-2018) on New York City’s attempt to develop a policy that addresses the true implications of algorithmic decision making, the first city in the nation to do so.

Crowdsourced Data and the Fight Against Florida’s Sea Level Rise by Susan Jacobson (Florida International University), the benefits of engaging the impacted community into scientific research.

A Literature of the Feed and the Shift to a Fragmented Self by Leonardo Solaas (Buenos Aires University), an essay reflecting on the potential emergence of a new literary form.

What You See May Not Be There: The State of the Subject Amid Pervasive Computer Vision by Julia Irwin (ITP ‘15 and ITP Adjunct), Carrie Wang’s (ITP’19) video essay that imagines how a museum in the future might look back at the present...and more!
