Headshot of Julie Lizardo

Julie Lizardo is a creative engineer: a programmer, designer, and educator. She received her BA from NYU CAS in biology with a focus in ecology and completed a MPS here at ITP in interactive media. Her research encompasses creating various web tools that range from generative art to dynamic maps of NYC’s trash system. One of her life-long goals is to promote computer science education and tackle the environmental racism faced in misrepresented communities. Julie gains inspiration from nature and is constantly searching for unique interdisciplinary projects to pursue.

Her work has been featured in the 2020 Biodesign Challenge Summit and the ml5.js medium blog. She was a computer science instructor at the non-profit All Star Code for young men of color. Today, Julie is an adjunct professor at NYU’s Department of Computer Science and NYU’s Interactive Media Arts Program.
