Spot is building a suite of social apps that help people better connect in the physical world. They currently have three apps with over 25,000 people using them every day. Their main app, FriendSpot, is a group messaging app that helps people coordinate with your friends to meet up. The co-founders will be on campus talking with interested students Oct 9-12. Spot was founded by two ex-Facebook/Instagram product leads, and recently became one of the earliest stage companies to complete Y-Combinator. 

Bios:

Mike McIntyre

  • Mike is the Co-Founder and CEO of Spot (FriendSpot app).
  • Prior to FriendSpot, Mike was at Facebook and Instagram for five years.
  • Mike started his career as one of Facebook's first Public Policy Analysts, where he focused on developing strategic political relations in Asia. 
  • He then moved into an Operations/Data Science role in Austin, and then a Sales Role based in NY, where he partnered with Eddie to develop tools that helped unlock 10's of millions of dollars for FB's brand business. 
  • Following that success, he moved to San Francisco to become a Product Manager.  
  • He led Europe/Asia growth for Instagram.
  • Built several new products for FB's Search team, including FB's mobile browser
  • And built/led the team that developed Safety Check and other a location based disaster response tools
Eddie Zhang

  • Eddie is the Co-Founder and CTO of Spot (FriendSpot app).
  • Eddie started working at Facebook in 2013 where him and Mike worked together to develop tools that helped unlock 10's of millions of dollars for FB's brand business.   
  • Eddie then worked as a Product Manager for FB's News Feed where he significantly increased the overall amount of time spent on Facebook. 
  • He also led the monetization team for FB's Messenger products, where he took them from $0-$100M+ in annual revenue. 
  • He previously worked as an algorithmic trader for Citi Bank,
  • Was a designer for Nickelodeon, 
  • And did M&A for Blackstone and Disney.
