Alum Jess de la Merced was selected to participate in Paul Feig's new program that supports up and coming female directors. The program, run through Feig and Laura Fischer's company, Powderkeg, selected just six female directors to mentor through the creation of six short films that all center around Los Angeles' diversity. Each short is a proof of concept for an original series. Jess de la Merced's short is called Phony, and is set in the San Gabriel Valley. Production begins this week in Los Angeles.
