Ryan Mason: Contemporary, improvisation

I am a choreographer and teacher. My work in both spheres is based on sharing and collaboration. I like to take things apart and look at them-for their absurdity, as well as for their sensory possibilities.

I danced with the José Limón company and Johannes Wieland, where I also served as rehearsal director. I stopped performing and started teaching and choreographing, before returning to performing. A graduate of CalArts, I am currently based in Munich, Germany.

My classes are an evolving and ongoing form of research. I incorporate specific physical task work, guided improvisation and choreographic material into my classes as a platform for you to develop movement and performative skills. Dancers are encouraged to take risks and observe their methods of learning and expression.

Class Description

During class we will explore an Awareness Through Movement lesson -- a sequence of movements designed to utilize our nervous system and our ability to recognize and create movement patterns that are more efficient, optimal and with less discomfort. The class emphasizes pattern awareness, distribution of effort/action through the whole skeleton leading to more skeletol articulation, better coordination and is ideal for injury prevention and rehabilitation.
