"¡Viva la toma de tierras!: Isabel Baufumé's cinematography" is a film screening showcasing the work of regional filmmaker Isabel Baufumé on supporting southern Peruvian peasant communities. Born in France, Baufumé moved to Perú around 1974 and lived in small Andean communities, where she learned Quechua and witnessed peasant struggles firsthand, such as land seizures against cooperatives. Her films depict peasant Andean communities demonstrating their political agency, solid collective organization, and transformative power. The claims over land governability and informed consent resonate with the current Peruvian and international context, where the race to achieve green energy is endangering the land of indigenous communities forcing them to leave and contaminating their water.

Organized jointly with Corriente: Latin American Encounter of Non-Fictional Films and Qosqo Maki Association.

This is an in-person event, open to the public. Prior registration is required. Non-NYU attendees will receive emailed instructions for building access and may be asked to present a government-issued photo ID upon arrival. NYU attendees must present their NYU ID.
