Tisch West Creating & Licensing Music for Film and Video

Join Tisch West, Steinhardt Alumni, and Berklee School of Music for a panel covering all aspects of creating and licensing music for film/video projects.

Our esteemed panelists will talk in depth about the importance of music in storytelling, the creative process of scoring to film/video, the nitty gritty of who does what, the legalities, how everyone works together, and what these careers look like for alums out there considering breaking into the field.

Doors will open at 7:20pm. Event will begin at 7:35pm.

The Panelists:

Miriam Mayer - Composer and Studio Musician            
​​Miriam is a composer for media and multi-instrumentalist, working in the studios, theaters, and concert halls of her native Los Angeles. Her compositions can be heard on every major network and cable channel. Miriam worked for John Williams for many years, proof-reading on films such as "Star Wars, The Phantom Menace", "Jurassic Park, Lost World", and "Saving Private Ryan". She is a proud member of the Television Academy and is fluent in many different genres of music.

Eric Kalver - Music Supervisor and Composer
​Eric Kalver is a music supervisor, composer, arranger, and drummer who has had many positions within the Los Angeles music industry. Previously, Eric was responsible for clearing all of the music for Guitar Hero Live, which won “Best Music Supervision in a Video Game” at the 2016 Guild of Music Supervisor Awards. He has also had experience in pitching and placing music for film and television for CBS, ABC, and Fox Sports. Currently, Eric works as a producer and music supervisor for the company Music and Strategy, where he has music supervised advertisements for brands such as Ford, Miller Lite, Coach, Capital One, Nest, and many more. Eric has also worked with many film and TV composers such as Brian Tyler, Mark Mothersbaugh, and Snuffy Walden, as well as written and performed musicals around Los Angeles in the comedy and musical theater scene at Second City and Upright Citizens Brigade.

Evelyn Wong - Music Director and Producer  
​​Evelyn is currently a Music Director and Producer at 5 Alarm Music, the largest independent production music library in the United States. As a Music Director, she regularly services clients’ music needs for a wide range of projects across film, television, trailers, and ad agencies.  She is also 5 Alarm’s in-house music editor, having worked on such projects as Friday Night Lights, Life, Everwood and Jack & Bobby. Being both a Music Director and Producer, Evelyn has unique insight into the current trends in music for film, tv and advertising and uses that knowledge to help produce 5 Alarm's original content specifically suited for sync placement. In addition to her work at 5 Alarm, Evelyn is also a music supervisor. Her most recent feature film Some Girl(s) featured at South By Southwest and stars Adam Brody, Kristen Bell, Zoe Kazan, Jennifer Morrison and Emily Watson.

Christy Carew Marshall '06 (NYU Steinhardt) – MODERATOR - Music Director, Producer, and Composer              
​​Christy Carew Marshall is a Canadian-American composer of music for film, TV, advertising, multimedia and the concert world. In 2012, Christy was selected from hundreds of applicants and hired to be In-House Composer at 5 Alarm Music, one of the largest production music libraries in the world. Through her work at 5 Alarm, Christy has had placements of her custom original music in major studio features, network television shows and national advertising campaigns. Her other roles at 5 Alarm include Music Director and Producer. She is active in the media composing community, as a member of the Society of Composers & Lyricists, The Alliance for Women Film Composers, and the TV Academy Music Peer Group. She is a 2006 graduate of NYU Steinhardt with a Masters Degree in Film Scoring and Composition.
