Gay Like Me: A Conversation with Richie Jackson

The LGBTQ+ Alumni Network in collaboration with the Tisch School of the Arts is pleased to bring you a special evening with Richie Jackson '87 (BFA, Drama), successful Broadway producer and author of Gay Like Me: A Father Writes to His Son. He will be interviewed by Gabrielle Korn (GAL '11), Refinery 29's director of fashion and culture.

In Gay Like Me, Jackson reflects on gay identity, parenting, and homophobia past and present. Join us on February 12 for a book talk and signing with Richie Jackson himself.

Richie Jackson '87 (BFA, Drama)

Richie Jackson is the author of Gay Like Me, published by HarperCollins. He is an award-winning Broadway, television and film producer who most recently produced the Tony Award-nominated Harvey Fierstein’s Torch Song on Broadway. He executive produced Showtime’s Nurse Jackie (the Emmy and Golden Globe nominee for Best Comedy Series) for seven seasons and co-executive produced the film Shortbus, written and directed by John Cameron Mitchell. As an alumnus of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, he endowed a fellowship program, the Richie Jackson Artist Fellowship, at his alma mater in 2015 to assist graduates in the transition from academia to a lifelong career in the arts. He and his husband, Jordan Roth, were honored with the Trevor Project’s 2016 Trevor Hero Award. They live in New York City with their two sons.

Gabrielle Korn (GAL '11)

Gabrielle Korn is an award-winning editor and journalist. She has worked in digital media since 2011, after graduating from NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study with a BA in queer and feminist theory, and writing. She’s best known for her work at Nylon Media, where she served as Editor in Chief from 2017 to 2019, and rebranded the publication to reflect progressive values, prioritizing LGBTQ inclusivity, racial diversity, and body positivity. She’s currently the Director of Fashion and Culture at Refinery29. Her debut memoir, Everybody (ELSE) Is Perfect, comes out June 2020 from Atria. Born in Rhode Island, she moved to New York in 2000 and never left. She now lives in Brooklyn with her fiancé and two rescue dogs.
