First-year students in the Production & Design Studio were each assigned a section of Shakespeare’s portrait in a small scale, as well as a research image of specific material. First, each student created a small painted interpretation of their specific portion of Shakespeare as if it were made of their particular material. Then they used the grid method to enlarge their “painters elevation” and finally combined these larger paintings to create the complete “Material Shakespeare.”
