In one of the largest and diverse cities in the world, historic events that evoke strong emotion on both sides of the issue occur frequently. Protests and demonstrations, which are a right of American citizens, have a way of both releasing the tension rising up within the groups of individuals affected and also increasing unrest between those with opposing views. Protest coverage during four years at NYU in New York City for events such as the war in Ukraine to the reversal of women’s rights with the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, is the focus of what photojournalist Danny Arensberg covers in his photography. NYC is a melting pot of rich cultures and his goal is to evoke empathy towards the individuals depicted in his photographs. Danny’s goal is to not only show what is happening on the ground but to also capture the emotions of the people involved. The core issues at hand are of importance to most everyone in some way, but it is the deep rooted emotions that Danny seeks to capture most. Through an unbiased but empathetic lens, Danny is able to capture the raw emotions that move people to act. Our minds may seek the facts necessary to be well informed, but it is our emotions that compel our souls to take action. It is Danny’s hope that through his photography of these important events he can encourage more people to take action to make the world a better place.
