These images are the most current representation of my photographic work and its evolution over the past four years. These photographs are a description of how I see the world around me specifically focusing on how life exists within the urban landscape. I currently shoot with 35mm film because it helps me to be more present and decisive about what I photograph. I pay close attention to the formal elements around me such as light and color, but also focus on the physical subject matter like people and the surrounding environment. I take the photo when I feel there are enough different elements present and working together that make it possible to create a compelling image. The built environment is a very important part of my street photography because it gives context to the subject matter within it. In these photos I treated the street like a stage, focusing on the unpredictability contained within the energy and flow of everyday life in this shared social space. In most cases the human presence is what activates the space and provides the necessary qualification that brings meaning to the rest of the visual elements which inform my composition. These six images represent my efforts to make sense of an unpredictable subject and present a coherent and aesthetic response to what I see everyday.
