Edison Hong - 2016 Richie Jackson Fellow

MFA, Musical Theatre Writing, 2015
Edison Hong is a wanderlust filled composer who has called many places home, including the Midwest, Hawai’i, Brazil and a van. Now based in New York, he is proud of have been a part Prospect Theatre’s Fall 2015 Musical Theatre Lab and the National Asian Artists Project’s 2015 Discover Series. His compositions have been performed at venues such as Joe’s Pub, Sardi’s, The Laurie Beechman Theatre, and 54 Below. He received his MFA at the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing at New York University and received readings for his two full-length shows. “Second Place”(music) features a chorus that embodies the fear and anxiety of the protagonist, Bridget Samson, who deals with life after losing the same international cooking competition her grandmother won years ago. “The Last Berplonza” (music) has an electronic dance score and takes place on a distant planet where caste systems are rigid and a fall from grace means life or death.
