Over the last 50 years as we forged new programs, built our home in New York and expanded to our global academic centers, institutes emerged. Each are built with shared values, common goals, and a priority for putting students first. The result – a place where artists and scholars create the future.
The Minor in Comedy Writing is designed for students in the Rita and Burton Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing who wish to focus closely on comedy while concentrating their studies on one of the three mediums of playwriting, screenwriting, or TV writing. The comedy minor is only available to undergraduate students in the Department of Dramatic Writing.
The purpose of the minor is to provide students with a solid foundation in comedy that complements their studies of dramatic writing across mediums. The principles of comedy writing explored in the minor are the same core principles taught in all Dramatic Writing classes; character, story, plot, theme, structure and technique. We believe that a focused study of comedy will make our students better writers across the board.
This minor is open to Dramatic Writing majors only.
You must take the following required and elective courses for a total of 13 units to earn the Minor in Comedy Writing.

Tisch minor courses can be double-counted between two Tisch minors. For all other NYU students, students' should follow their home school academic policies.
