My project delves into the generational cycle of eating disorders between mother and daughter, building upon my previous work, The Voice, which chronicles my mother’s struggles with eating disorders and her path toward recovery. This new project expands on that narrative by including my own journey, highlighting the ways in which these cycles can pass down through generations.
Given the lack of representation of eating disorders in the media, my aim is to share the personal experiences of both my mother and myself, offering a deeper insight into the reality of this struggle and clearing common misconceptions. Through weaving together our journeys, I seek to illuminate the impact an eating disorder has on two women’s lives, exploring both the shared and distinct aspects of our experiences and its looming presence.
In creating these images, I aim to make sense of my own struggles within the context of my relationship with my mother and her experiences, while also trying to find peace and understanding on my journey toward self-acceptance.
