My grandmother, Evelyn Eraci Glieberman was a woman of exceptional talent and grace. As an opera singer, pianist, performer, and philanthropist, she devoted her life to the arts, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Evie was more than just my grandmother – she was a source of endless inspiration, and even after her passing, I continue to feel her in everything that I do. In her youth, Evie’s career was immortalized in a series of striking portraits that highlight her beauty and charisma. These images have become a part of my family's visual history. Through a series of self-portraits shot on both medium format and 35mm film, I strive to reclaim and reimagine her archive. By using my own body and identity, I aim to reflect the spirit of my grandmother, creating a new visual narrative of her life as I would have imagined it. Drawing inspiration from spaces she occupied and experiences that shaped her, my goal is not to imitate her, but rather capture her essence by allowing her legacy to live on through myself. These photographs become a space for me to establish a visual dialogue between my present self, my grandmother, and her legacy. The work is both an act of preservation and transformation, allowing me to honor Evie and find my own power through our histories.
