One of my greatest insecurities has been the belief that I am incapable of making music. My parents are classical musicians and I grew up playing violin from the age of 2; however, I was always performing other people’s music and never creating it myself. It has been a life-long desire of mine to produce my own music and develop a process of working in this medium, a challenge which I am now beginning to undertake.
samplespls_version2_new3.als is a personal experiment in making music. Produced in Ableton, the project is a continuous mix of original music where each movement transitions to the next similar to a DJ set. The piece moves through a succession of references to the styles of electronic music producers Koreless, Cheeky, Jamie xx, and Four Tet; violin, voice, and other field recordings are also sampled and processed. samplespls_version2_new3.als is an exorcism of musical ideas that explores process, form, abstraction, and emotion while embracing the derivative nature of art.
