NYU, Tisch School of the Arts, Department of Drama invites applications for an Assistant Arts Professor with expertise in Voice, Speech and Text for the Meisner Studio. This is a full time, renewable contract faculty position with full benefits and will commence in the Fall of 2022. The course work includes teaching both primary and advanced voice & speech, text and the IPA. As a member of the Meisner Studio Core Faculty, other responsibilities may include: cross-disciplinary teaching, coaching on student projects and the direction of curricular productions in the Meisner Studio. The faculty member will also mentor students, engage in outreach activities, and contribute to the articulation and fulfillment of the educational mission of the Meisner Studio, the Department of Drama, Tisch School of the Arts and New York University. The Meisner Studio is seeking a candidate dedicated to meeting the needs of a diverse student body through an adaptive and flexible pedagogical approach. The Voice, Speech and Text Training at the Studio, overseen by Area Head Gigi Buffington, leads students to discover their own unique impulses and breath patterns generating a capacity for dynamic range of vocal expression and transformation. The training aims to foster flexibility, capacity, and specificity connected to impulse and breath. A comprehensive practical exploration of phonemes and the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) is encompassed in first year work. A pedagogical approach that adaptively and inclusively blends such influences as Berry, Rodenberg, Williams, Miller, etc., is preferred. Poetry and prose are explored in class.
