Based out of New York City, Geoff Strasser has been mixing pop and indie rock music for the last decade.
In that time, he's had the pleasure of working with top artists such as: Wyclef Jean, DJ Premier, Keith Urban, We The Kings, Courtney Love, Train, Fallout Boy, Travie McCoy, Chiddy Bang, and many more. Most recently he mixed the debut full length for Firekid - coming out on Atlantic Records.
Q What was your favorite part about attending Recorded Music?
The best part was being around people who were as passionate and eager to succeed as I was. The post-college music reality can be a scary place but I felt like I had an international network of people to reach out to (and who could reach out to me) once I graduated. To this day, I continue to work with people I met at REMU nearly five years ago.
Q How did Recorded Music prepare you for success?
REMU helped expand my horizons and give me dimensionality as an engineer. I went in strictly for production but the classes regarding music business, songwriting, and writing about popular music helped hone super beneficial skills in the real world.
Q What are you currently doing professionally?
I've taken up a residency as the in-house mixer at Mindsmack.TV/NimbleDivision. I mix commercials and sound design spots for broadcast and internet for companies such as Food Network, Gatorade, Google, Comedy Central, and Air BnB. In my free time, I continue to freelance around the city and work out of a room I built in midtown called Analogue Muse. Some recent projects have been for Spotify, Disney, Scooter Island, DCD2 Records, Taro, Jingle Punks, and Atlantic Records.
Q What words of wisdom can you share?
Create, collaborate, and experiment. Ask your teachers questions.
