OPEN FACULTY POSITIONS
Assistant or Associate Professor
The Department of Art & Public Policy at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty member to be appointed at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Fall of 2023. We seek a dynamic scholar who is able to teach courses in critical theory, cultural analysis, the history of arts activism, and social and community-based practice. Curatorial experience is welcome.
The department – the first of its kind – explores the myriad links between art and social life, examining ways in which artists bring their work into the world and engage political questions. We offer a one-year master’s degree in Arts Politics which includes immersion in aesthetic and political theory, cultural study, embodied research, and socially engaged art-making. Our diverse students work across multiple genres, come from across the globe, and bring with them a range of professional, educational, cultural and artistic experiences. In addition to our master’s program, the department offers an undergraduate minor and administers a year-long core writing course for all first-year undergraduate students in the Tisch School of the Arts in which students consider a range of social and ethical issues linked to their own creative practices.
Pedagogically adventurous and imaginative in their approaches to curricular development, departmental faculty members are recognized for their artistic work, advocacy, and scholarship. All faculty members in the department are actively engaged in advising our graduate students, while also serving on school and university-wide committees.
We are seeking someone with a strong research and writing practice who understands contemporary theoretical developments, the history of art and culture in social movements, the enormous breadth of communal traditions, and the power of creativity in social change. The successful candidate will be dedicated to innovative practices of theory, art making and political engagement.
The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D., have significant publications and college-level teaching experience. Leadership and administrative experience are also valued.
