Mary Overlie

Associate Arts Professor (Retired)

Ms. Overlie is a performer, choreographer, and the leading theoretician/originator of the internationally practiced Viewpoints technique.  From 1978 to 1986, she maintained her dance company in New York City.  She is well known for her many collaborations with theatre directors in New York, most notably Lee Bruer, Joanne Akalaitis, Anne Bogart, and Brian Jusha.  Mary is a founding member of Danspace, Movement Research, ETW, and the Pro Series workshop experiments of the Internationale Tanz Wochen in Vienna, and has taught and advised at schools in France, Holland, Denmark, Brussels and the USA.  She was the founding teacher of ETW and directed the studio from 1989 to 1991. She was awarded the Bessie dance and theatre award in 1999.
