David C. Zung

Adjunct Teacher

David Zung has been in the film and animation industry for over 35 years. His work encompasses a wide spectrum of experience on close to a thousand commercials and projects as a storyboard artist, character designer, set designer, concept artist, production designer, writer, and director. He has worked on projects in many media including cel, stop-motion, computer animation, visual effects, interactive, and live-action. Among the studios he has worked with on national and international projects are Gravity-Rhino FX, Hornet Animation, Psyop, Curious Pictures, R/Greenberg Associates, Blue Sky Productions, MTV, Cartoon Network, Disney, and Nickelodeon.  These collaborations have won many industry awards. He has 10 years of classical figure drawing and painting in New York City. Before his art school studies he trained as an architect at Princeton University. He has drawn for important designers such as Michael Graves, Frank Gehry, Peter Eisenmann, Rafael Vinoly, and IM Pei and partners. His drawings and models for these clients were published widely in books and magazines and exhibited in museums. He has been teaching Storyboarding in NYU’s Undergraduate Film and Television Department for 12 years now. Animation Magazine, a professional trade magazine, named his class one of the best courses of its type in the country.
