Melissa Powers moved to Beijing at the age of 6, where she lived with her parents and a wheelchair-bound dog. Her background as a mixed race Singaporean-American has had a huge impact on the themes she addresses in her work. However, her love for audience-friendly films ensures that she always tackles the big questions of culture and identity in a fun, action-packed way.
Melissa writes for a variety of mediums, recognized for her poetry and with writing published in print and online (online with the Wall Street Journal). Her work history includes experience at BBC America, HBO Asia, and Singapore’s Channel 5. She graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2015, with a BFA in Dramatic Writing and a minor in Linguistics.
