Designers of the Dance Screening

Celebrate Tisch Dance's wonderful ballet professor, Jolinda Menendez, and the movie she most recently directed!

With stunning performances of five unique dance pieces, Designers of the Dance takes you a step further, into the studio with legendary dancers and choreographers to learn about the works and process that go into making these five ballets great. Join the stars from American Ballet Theatre, Bolshoi Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and The Royal Ballet and see Alexei Ratmansky’s retake on The Nutcracker, Leonid Lavrovsky’s ground-breaking Romeo & Juliet that unleashed the narrative in Prokofiev’s score, Lar Lubovitch’s powerful Othello, Alastair Marriott’s hauntingly beautiful Lieder and Yuri Possikhov’s expressive lyricism in Diving into the Lilacs.  What was the single inspiration that caused each of these unique works to be created? How do the choreographer and dancers work together in the studio to bring these ballets to life on the stage? Explore the beauty and inspiration of these contemporary classics on PBS-Television in early 2018.

Starring: Marcelo Gomes, Melissa Hamilton, Julie Kent, Maria Kochetkova, Vladislav Lantratov, Gillian Murphy, Gennadi Nedvigin, Evgenia Obraztsova, Eric Underwood, James Whiteside and choreographers Lar Lubovitch, Alastair Marriott, Yuri Possokhov and Alexei Ratmansky, and ballet master Mikhail Lavrovsky.
