Arts Politics M.A. Candidate (’18) Ikram Lakhdhar invites you to an evening of poetry reading and conversation with her mother, Tunisian Poet, Sondes Baccar. For her independent study, Lakhdhar translated excerpts from Baccar’s poetry from Arabic to English for the first time and will share moments of intimacy and discovery during the process. This filial exchange is an exploration of the role of translation to transcend cultural and linguistic borders. The event will include an introduction by Kathy Engel, Poet and Chair of Department, Art & Public Policy, NYU Tisch School of the Art.
